Dyson V11 Outsize review: A cordless vacuum cleaner with a bigger battery and easier to replace!

Does this make cleaning a breeze?

The latest Dyson V11 Outsize is larger and heavier than its predecessor. However, it seems to improve the problems that were associated with cordless vacuum cleaners. Reviewed by Andrew Liszewski of Gizmodo.

Dyson announced in 2018 that it would no longer make corded vacuums.

There are of course many good things about cordless vacuum cleaners, and there is no doubt that they are convenient. But in exchange for that, it's also true that the problem of the battery is haunting. Aside from running out of battery while cleaning, long-term lifespan can also be a challenge for cordless vacuum cleaners (especially powered by a motor that spins fast enough to generate powerful suction).

Considering that Dyson's products aren't cheap in the first place, after just a few years of use, it will rattle, and the replacement battery (not covered by the warranty after the first year) will cost more than 10,000 yen. It's also a bit annoying to do. On the other hand, the Dyson Ball (with cord) has lasted a long time in my house. I have been using it for over 10 years without any problems.

An even newer Dyson V11 Outsize could improve cordless battery issues and become a potential replacement for corded vacuums.

Differences and inheritance from the previous model

First, let's compare it with the Dyson V11 that appeared in 2019.

In a quick review, the V11 has an automatic mode that adjusts the suction power according to the floor surface to minimize the challenges unique to cordless vacuum cleaners, and a countdown that shows how long it will take before the battery runs out. Added a timer etc.

Meanwhile, the latest Dyson V11 Outsize features a larger battery, a 150% larger clear bin, and a 25% wider cleaning head.

The V11 Outsize cleaning head is wider than the V10 and V11.

This is the same size that Dyson used for its corded vacuum, and in theory it can clean a larger area with less movement, so it's probably useful for larger homes. On the other hand, when cleaning smaller spaces, you need to switch to smaller accessories. In that case, you might miss the V10's smaller cleaning head, but the V11 Outsize has its good points too. An internal rotating brush bar that's easier to reach for cleaning tangles like long hair.

Cleaning the brush bar is now very easy to open and remove. I would like to see this mechanism continue in future models.

On the other hand, if you look at the top of the vacuum cleaner, it inherits the V11's see-through filter cover, which is a significant improvement over the V10.

Battery Notable

I thought this would work as a replacement for my Dyson corded vacuum, and it made replacing the battery pretty easy. . It can be removed with the touch of a button. However, it is also worth noting that the larger the size, the heavier it feels.

Usability

Unfortunately, the V11 Outsize can't charge two batteries at the same time. I feel that it is not like Dyson, which has emphasized design and usability so far.

As for the wall brackets, the V11 Oversize has two brackets for the two batteries. Maybe they had separate chargers to speed up charging time, but it would have been nice to have this all in one.

Compared to V10 and V11, V11 Outsize is heavy. But I wouldn't say it's a major drawback. For example, ergonomic ideas are incorporated everywhere, such as the easy-to-hold handle of the V11 Outsize, so you won't get tired even if you clean for a long time.

Compared to the corded Dyson Ball, it's comfortable to move from room to room, easy to use, and easy to empty the trash. Once you're done with the work, you can set it to the wall charger and charge it without winding the power cord.

Finally, about battery life. Dyson is a bit optimistic, giving a figure of 120 minutes under fairly ideal conditions.

Actually, when set to "auto" mode on short-pile carpet, each battery lasts about 25 minutes, for a total of 50 minutes. On the same carpet, switching to the most powerful "boost" mode further reduced the life of each battery by about 12 minutes.

These results are close to the Dyson V10, and you can see that the V11 Outsize battery introduced a breakthrough innovation...not. But when it runs out of charge, you can quickly replace it with another battery.

What kind of person is it suitable for?

If you live in an apartment, the smaller Dyson V11 might be enough. If you live in a house, have a lot of space to clean, or want to do a deep clean in a cordless and comfortable way, the V11 Outsize will definitely help. In that case, you're better off buying the $800 version that includes two batteries. If you're in the habit of taking your time and cleaning thoroughly, you might want to consider buying a third battery (additional $150).

That being said, there's no room for argument that it's not affordable for everyone. After a few years of use, if you need to replace the battery again, it will cost you more. Dyson products are rarely affordable, and cordless vacuums are especially expensive.

But if you're obsessed with your vacuum or don't want to see things on the floor (like me), you'll always have a ready-to-go vacuum on your wall. If you like it, there will definitely come a moment when you think it's the right thing to buy.

The ease of being cordless and easy to clean and throw away is addictive. But if you're okay with a corded vacuum, you can still get a Dyson upright vacuum that will last for years at no extra cost.
